The Melhorn King House, Site No. 318
BED and BREAKFAST
CRONE'S COBBLESTONE COTTAGE is a 1913 Craftsman bungalow, lovingly restored as a gracious and charming bed and breakfast. It was named a City of San Diego Historical Landmark in 1994 under the official name "The Melhorn King House." An Award of Excellence-winning addition was completed in 1993, giving the artist/owner her own quarters and office, along with a studio for papermaking, watercolors and Book Arts.
A visitor experiences classic elements of Arts & Crafts style design throughout the interior and exterior. Natural materials, such as wood beams and the cobblestones that give the bed and breakfast its name, are visible when taking in the façade. The eave overhanging the broad front porch features exposed beams and joinery. Inside, one finds nooks and built-ins, a staple of Craftsman homes, in abundance; paned glass, and more wood, are everywhere one turns. The simplicity and harmony that the Arts & Crafts movement valued so highly steep into a person immersed in them, making a stay in at Crone's Cobblestone Cottage refreshing and unique.
From the secluded old-fashioned writer's desk to the oak porch swing, you will find inviting nooks for quiet moments and the privacy to enjoy them.
A registered Historical Landmark conveniently located in San Diego.
